On the Concept of the Face, Regarding the Son of God
Romeo Castellucci
Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio
Barbican Theatre
21, 22 & 23 April
Romeo Castellucci returns to the Barbican with a haunting new creation. As an uncompromising theatre maker, he creates work that is at once beautiful, powerful and at times unsettling to watch.
On the Concept of the Face, Regarding the Son of God explores the notion of Jesus as icon. The action takes place in front of a giant Renaissance image of Christ. Castellucci uses his signature theatrical language to question mystical and theological manifestations, in this powerful and unsettling piece.
The cast includes: Gianna Plazzi, Sergio Scarlatella, Dario Boldrini, Silvia Costa and Silvano Voltolina.
The concept, direction and staging are by Romeo Castellucci with collaboration by Giacomo Strada. The original music is by Scott Gibbons.
Together with Societas Raffaello Sanzio, this visionary director continues to inspire.
In 2009, bite and SPILL festival co-commissioned the UK premiere of Castellucci’s Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso – freely inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy.
