SPILL Tarot Pack

The SPILL Performance Tarot is an artist led experimental project that was at the heart of SPILL 2009. The project brings together a new constituency of contemporary makers from a variety of disciplines, in order to create a new deck of tarot cards.

In collaboration with SPILL commissioned photographer Manuel Vason, a range of ‘maverick’ artists have each restaged a tarot card. Artists collaborating on this project are Ron Athey, Marisa Carnesky, Franko B, Raimund Hoghe, Robert Pacitti, Lois Keidan, Lee Adams, Carla Esperanza Tommasini, Sheila Ghelani, Oreet Ashery, Rajni Shah, Noblesse Oblige, Vaginal Davis, Grace Ellen Barkey, Harminder Singh Judge, Kira O’Reilly, Helena Hunter, Empress Stah, Dominic Johnson, Julia Bardsley, Manuel Vason and Yann Marussich.

These images have been turned into a beautiful limited edition deck of cards, accompanied by a book written by Robert Pacitti and Carla Esperanza Tommisini about the project, the artists involved, and how to interpret the cards. The SPILL Tarot is presented in a specially designed cloth covered box and comes cellophane wrapped.

A major new book of writing, thinking and conversation on the SPILL Festival of Performance.
This book brings together a range of people who have been involved in SPILL across the past few years: all of the artists within the festival to date; Kira O’Reilly in her capacity as SPILL Thinker-in-Residence 2009; a series of chapters written by members of SPILL: Overspill; and Manuel Vason discussing the SPILL Tarot. Artists discussed in the publication include: Jan Fabre, Romeo Castellucci, Needcompany, Julia Bardsley, Forced Entertainment, Ron Athey & Lee Adams’: Visions of Excess, Gob Squad and Victoria, to name but a few. Also includes information and images of events from both the SPILL 2007 & 2009 festivals.
